Eyebrow Tattooing – A client’s story 2005

I had been considering permanent make up for over 12 months when I finally went and had it done last month. There was nothing really wrong with my eyebrows; they had a natural look and looked nicely curved when waxed and maintained regularly. But while my hair, eyes and eyelashes are a dark brown, my eyebrows have always been a fairer shade of light brown that I would always darken with eyebrow pencil, preferring the look that stronger eyebrows gave my face.

I started researching permanent make up practitioners near me on the internet and discovered that while obtaining perfect eyebrows was a simple process the choice of a practitioner is a decision where you must be totally sure of whom you choose. I found Tatu Me and contacted Kelly. I called her and after a brief discussion about my requirements and the methods involved in an eyebrow tattoo I made an appointment to visit her in a week’s time at a salon near me.

Having had my eyebrows shaped a few days earlier than my appointment by my beautician to exactly the shape I wanted her to follow, I arrived at the salon with a list of questions and requirements that I would take along to any practitioner I was considering getting work from. Happily most of my questions were not relevant; her work area was clean and better equipped than a lot of the salons I had been in and after a more in depth discussion of what it is I wanted to achieve I was happy to commence the eyebrow tattooing.

Kelly laid out her equipment in front of me, each a brand new disposable piece, explaining exactly how the process worked. The device she used to insert the pigment into the skin was a 'pen' like device with disposable pieces. She laid out the small bottles of pigments in various shades of brown and after looking at my hair and eyes in natural light we decided on a dark black-chocolate brown colour.

'Micropigmentation' or 'permanent make up' or 'cosmetic' tattooing, while permanent make up such as this does not penetrate the skin as deeply as regular tattooing and is designed not to last as long as normal tattooing (two to four years), a tattoo most certainly is. Cosmetic Make Up will fade with time (and exposure to UV light, various creams and abrasive cosmetic treatments such as peels also. However it cannot be guaranteed that all pigment will not be lost from the skin after a certain amount of time and so even if it is billed – as it often is – as 'permanent make up', for that reason it should always be considered a permanent process.

She used some local anaesthetic cream to numb the area around the eye. Despite the cream I felt a little sensation, but it certainly wasn't pain – at the worst it was like a safety pin being dragged lightly across my skin and mostly it was just a strange buzzing against my brow bone. She worked quickly, and in two or three minutes the first eyebrow had been done. Wiping an extra layer of pigment over the skin with a cotton bud to sink into the incisions in the skin, she started on the other eyebrow. Within several minutes both eyebrows had been done and I relaxed for a few minutes whilst new anaesthetic gel was layered on the newly created eyebrows until the whole thing was repeated again. All in all my eyebrows were gone over three times plus a final touch up once I had seen for myself at the completion.

Once it was done Kelly explained that my eyebrows would seem very dark at first, but that the area would probably exfoliate a little and once the eyebrows had flaked away I would be left with the colour that was intended which would be much lighter. The cost of a top up should they be too light or any bits have been missed was included in the original fee paid on my first visit. They certainly were very dark at first and looked as though they'd been drawn on with a thick dark colour, not natural at all, and despite her telling me that this wasn't the final result to expect I still had to go through a little panic at the thought of being left with these huge scary eyebrows.

My eyebrows only exfoliated lightly, however, and after five days they began to come away to reveal the final colour and shape underneath which was perfect. Kelly had chosen the shade perfect and applied the pigment with a very light, feathery touch, so even close up you wouldn't be able to tell that the colour wasn't 'natural'. They frame and add definition to my face in a way that I'd always been trying to achieve with the eyebrow pencil but never could manage, and I've had numerous comments telling me I'm looking good but not being able to put their finger on why – the very definition of good cosmetic tattooing. About 12 years ago I had my lips tattooed and it didn’t work. I had spent all this money and had no results and then I had my tattooist do it for me and it worked but wasn’t even or perfect. I was scared of going anywhere else and not achieving what I wanted. Then I found Kelly from tatume and she made me feel so confident that she could fix my lips, that I would get what I was after and she did it, my lips look fabulous. Words can’t express how much I love my new eyebrows. It was the best decision I have ever made. My fiancé loves it too as it means more weekend rides on the motorbike. Before, I had to pack a small mirror, eyebrow pencil and quickly find a bathroom to reapply my eyebrows as they had rubbed off with the helmet! My only regret is that I didn’t have them done sooner! The very first time I meet Kelly, any concerns I may have had were put
at ease immediately. She was very professional and explained the procedure in great detail. She assured me all needles used were brand new by setting up the device right there in front of me. After a long consultation and drawing exactly where I wanted my eyeliner to remain permanently, she proceeded to work her magic. I have since been back and had my eyebrows done also and they are shaped perfectly. What makes her so great is that she didn't risk giving me something I might not like. We have gotten the exact look I want gradually and perfectly. Next week I'm going for another visit to touch up my eyebrows and I can’t wait. This time, I’m not going alone as my sister was so impressed by the work; she too is getting her make up permanently tattooed.

After many years of over plucking my eyebrows they were left thin uneven and patchy. Everyday became a hassle for me to have to draw them on and I dreaded Summer time as my eyebrows would literally just wash off every time I went for a swim. I decided to look into cosmetic tattooing procedures.
After extensive research I decided to get my eyebrows done with 'Tatume'. Kelly was extremely informative from the very start; she answered all my questions, my concerns and reassured me that I would be so happy once I had the procedure done. She thoroughly explained how her service consisted of two visits, as she preferred to start off lighter and thinner with the brows rather than thicker and darker, which could not be reversed later. She set my mind at ease so I booked the procedure at a salon closest to me. As a stay at home mother I was also very impressed that Kelly said it was no problem for me to bring my 7 month old baby with me as I could not find a baby sitter, other practitioners advised me that "babies were not allowed into their salons?

In conclusion I now have perfect eyebrows that are on as soon as I wake up in the morning, and will never wash off. The procedure was very comfortable thanks to the anaesthetic. Kelly was very kind, down to earth and most importantly genuine, she provided me with an excellent service for a very reasonable price. I have no hesitations in recommending Kelly for future interested clients.

When i decided to look into cosmetic tattooing i went straight to the internet to begin my research. The very first website i came acrss was Tatume.com and i couldn't believe how helpful the information on the site was. It answered all my preliminary questions and instantly i felt a whole lot more comfortable with the idea of having my eyebrows tattoed. Just to be safe i looked at several other sites and made several phone calls to salons, but no one made me feel so at ease and comfortable with the process as Kelly did. Not only did she provide me with the information i needed but Kelly also gave me a few pointers of things to look for when selecting who i was going to use . . . I arranged a tie to come in to see Kelly prior to booking my first appointment, just to confirm in mind that this was going to be the person/company to tattoo my eyebrows, which was something i didnt take lightly. If it turned out terrible i would have been in a horrible position, but within 2 or 3 minutes of chatting with Kelly i knew that Tatu Me was perfect for me and i booked in my appointment. My first appointment was very exciting, we took photos and Kelly drew on my new shape and before i knew it, it was time to get started. Kelly explained everything she was doing and showed e al the tools that she was using - I trusted her instantly! Within about 40 minutes it was time to sit up and have a look at the finished product (well almost) The shape was amazing! And i couldn't believe how good my skin looked, i thought i would be extremely red and puffy, ut it really wasn't too bad at all. Kelly gave me some aftercare cream and some aftercare notes and we booked in our second session for about four weeks time. My eyebrows faded a little bit as expected, bu Kelly told me it was better to be safe by going a shade too light than one too dark. Within about five days my new eyebrows were almost healed! My second appointment was much like the first, although this time i decided to go a little darker and thicker, and the end result was perfect. I couldn't stop looking at my new brows in the mirror! I'm totally healed now and i can't begin to explain how great it is to get out of the shower or go for a swim and my eyebrows are still there!! Sound silly i know but when you've had to draw them on for such a long time it is a luxury to not have to worry about it anymore. If you're in the process of looking for a cosmetic tattooist, you have to give Kelly from Tatu Me a call because i think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone better.
